VidantaWorld Mexico Open shifts to fall as the PGA Tour's flagship destination experience
- New destination experiences, including a luxury theme park and a new Cirque du Soleil show, are positioning VidantaWorld as one of the PGA Tour's most distinctive stops.
Vallarta–Nuevo Nayarit, Mexico, January 26, 2026. The VidantaWorld Mexico Open returns to VidantaWorld Vallarta–Nuevo Nayarit from October 29 to November 1, 2026, marking a strategic shift on the PGA Tour calendar as the event moves to the fall season for the first time.
The new dates align with Mexico's traditional Día de Muertos celebrations and the opening of the world's first luxury theme park, BON Luxury Theme Park at VidantaWorld, bringing a distinctive atmosphere to championship week and giving spectators more to experience beyond the course, while competition remains firmly at the center of the event.
The 2026 edition of the VidantaWorld Mexico Open also marks a historic milestone: for the first time, Grupo Vidanta will take on full management of the tournament as title sponsor, host venue, and championship operator, reaffirming the company's leadership in hospitality, entertainment, and international tourism.
The championship returns to the Vidanta Vallarta Golf Course, which will debut a new routing configuration starting in 2026. The updated layout brings holes 18, 9, 1, and 10 together in a single quadrant, creating a more compact competitive core without compromising the integrity of the overall design.

The new layout is designed to improve tournament flow, operational efficiency, and broadcast sightlines, while still meeting the strategic demands expected of a PGA Tour venue. The finish remains anchored on the par-4 18th hole, while the placement of holes 1 and 10 allows for more efficient tee-time patterns and smoother movement throughout the week.
"This new configuration lets us optimize tournament operations on the course while preserving the competitive character players expect," said Iván Chávez, Executive Vice President of Grupo Vidanta. "It's a practical evolution that meets the demands of a modern PGA Tour event."
The new timing places the tournament at the heart of VidantaWorld's expanding entertainment offerings, which include the opening of BON Luxury Theme Park and the debut of the new Cirque du Soleil show, LUDŌ.

"Our goal is to deliver a tournament that meets the highest competitive standards while offering a setting that reflects where the modern PGA Tour is headed," added Chávez. "The scale and variety of experiences at VidantaWorld allow this event to function both as a top-tier competition and one of the Tour's most compelling stops."
A 120-player field and a premier PGA Tour stage
The 2026 edition will feature 120 professional golfers competing for 500 FedExCup points and a $6 million purse, including top PGA Tour talent alongside Mexico's and Latin America's leading players.
"The VidantaWorld Mexico Open is a clear reflection of where Mexican golf is headed: a world-class stage that's highly competitive and deeply connected to our national identity. For the Mexican Golf Federation, in our centennial year, this tournament represents an invaluable platform for developing our players, giving them the chance to compete against the PGA Tour's elite while showcasing Mexico's ability to host top-tier international sporting events with excellence, hospitality, and tradition," said Andrés Jurado Rivera Torres.
In 2026, the Mexican Golf Federation (FMG) celebrates its 100th anniversary, marking a century dedicated to the development, organization, and growth of golf in Mexico. Over the decades, the FMG has played a key role in shaping generations of golfers, strengthening its affiliated clubs, and building a strong athletic infrastructure that has enabled Mexican talent to compete on both national and international stages.

Since joining the PGA Tour calendar in 2022, the Mexico Open has established itself as an important platform for regional players and a global showcase for championship golf in Mexico. Each year, the event generates significant economic impact in Bahía de Banderas, benefiting hotels, restaurants, transportation providers, and the broader tourism value chain.
